¡Vámonos recio!

Before we get into the content, our first event, Las Reinas del Beauty Industry kicked off yesterday at American Eat Co. Thanks to Memo and Jesus for hosting us.

¡Muchas gracias a Fasnya Galvez por compartir todos los tips para crecer nuestras redes sociales y cómo enfrentar retos con confianza! Y mil gracias a Francisca Villegas por moderar esta conversación, añadiendo sus conocimientos y sentido del humor.

At the event, we were also joined by Narda and Gisselle from the City of Tucson’s small business program, beauty industry folks, and small business owners like Adi (Adi’s Aguas Frescas) and the owners of Right Choice Insurance. Adi just set up shop en el American Eat and is serving up bomb raspados y aguas frescas. Right Choice just bought their own building on Speedway. Todos dándole duro.

Next month vamos a entrevistar a Vanessa Ruiz. She is an accomplished cosmetic coordinator, laser tech, makeup artist and speaker, y estamos emocionados que va a ser nuestra segunda entrevista como parte de Las Reinas. Gabito Ballesteros y Eslabon Armado Abren Paso a La Nueva Generación de Música y Cultura

Back in March we gave a shout out to Daniel Cordova y German Fuentes (La Chingada, Cruda, The Neighborhood). This month we showcased their collabo with Marcus Gonzalez and Ramiro Bojorquez bringing some serious música regional star-power to Downtown Tucson at the Cinco de Mayo en el Barrio.

Uno de los intérpretes del Cinco de Mayo en el Barrio fué nada más y namda menos que Gabito Ballesteros. Tucson can claim Gabito as one of its own. He attended Sunnyside High School (Sunny-Side!) before moving back to Hermosillo as a promise to his dad to get his degree. Fue allí donde conoció a Natanel Cano. Poco después, Gabito firmó con la disquera de Natanel, Los CT. Su canción AMG es uno de los himnos más reconocidos de los corridos tumbados. A medida que la cultura hip hop cruzó la frontera, it was only a matter of time before stories about making it from the bottom would mix with corrido culture to create a new musical genre. And because we don’t want to spoil the rest of the story, you can read about it in English or Spanish.

Marisol Vindiola quiere que sepas que ¡Tucson Es Tu Casa!

We hope you got a chance to read the profile piece on Marisol Vindiola. She is the Sr. Director of Multicultural Marketing at Visit Tucson. Marisol represents everything that we love about los borderlands. Nacida en Sonora, Marisol is a cultural bridge between Visit Tucson and visitors from México y Latinoamérica and those living in cities with strong Spanish-speaking ties: Los Angeles, Chicago, los Newyores.

The story gave us an excuse to feature one of our favorite Tucson neighborhoods: Barrio Viejo y tomarnos un cafecito en el Exo. Marisol has been busy working on Visit Tucson’s newest campaign: ¡Tucson Es Tu Casa! The campaign is up for a Governor’s Tourism Award in July, y pues ojalá que ganen. ¡Mucha suerte!
